Ward Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) is an independent affiliate of Ward African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME).
The governing boards are completely independent with the pastor of Ward AME Church having a perpetual seat on the board of
Ward EDC to insure the communication and linkage.
Established in 1987 as one of the first and leading faith-centered development corporations in Los Angeles, Ward
Economic Development Corporation, (WEDC), is a California not-for-profit organization whose mission is to:
»Engage in development of housing, businesses, infrastructure, & people power
»Conduct research and feasibility studies of community development projects
»Identify community economic development and job creation opportunities
»Facilitate community empowerment by engaging stakeholders in the rebuilding process, & community education of residents
WEDC’s approach includes economic, housing, leadership and neighborhood development services within a target area
of the greater Los Angeles area. Our goals are to:
»Establish and support local entrepreneurial opportunities, growth in human capital
»Create jobs for minority youth, at risk males and the chronically employed & underemployed
»Facilitate community empowerment and nurture indigenous leadership development
»Promote and support the development of affordable housing development to meet the shelter needs of growing families and seniors.
